I also thought that lower FPS=lower CPU usage, since it has less frames to manage. Even Rise of the Tomb Raider, hovers between 30-54%. I know that DX12 is better at spreading work across all the cores, I guess I was just surprised to see the CPU working so hard because most other modern AAA games stay within 20-40% and rarely peak beyond 60% usage. I hope one day to get one of those Nvidia BFGD's or that regular TV's will adapt G-sync (or maybe Nvidia will allow Free-sync over HDMI2.1 lol).

I could probably do 40-45 FPS with this game at 4K, but the problem is I'm using a 60hz TV so my options are either 60 or 30. So it's not surprising that your 8700k with 12 threads has higher usage than you've seen in other AAA games as most games only use a few threads.Īh, so because I am limiting my frames the GPU is being saved from extra work? That makes sense. According to this test, SotTR will use up to 16 threads: That's ideal because it means all those cores in your CPU are being used (more performance) and not idling as opposed to only a few threads/cores being used (less performance). If you have an unlocked frame rate (which requires vsync off btw) and a low GPU utilization, then that's not ideal as it means your GPU is being bottlenecked by something else (likely CPU).Ī good DX12 implementation should use more CPU cores and spread the work evenly.

So if you're locking your frame rate and your GPU utilization is less than 100% then that's okay. However, if you lock the frame rate and your GPU can hit that target without dips, then your GPU utilization will be lower because the GPU can run faster but is being limited to running at the frame rate you set. A lower GPU utilization means you are leaving performance on the table, that's why you ideally want 100% GPU utilization. In Rise it would regularly hit 48GB's.Ī higher GPU utilization simply means your GPU is being taxed harder / less or no more performance can be gained. Also motion blur is superb and the game is running smooth. Also as for performance, i did see my CPU hit 100% for a few seconds but generally it's good. Looks like the problem was caused by the game starting without the splash menu. Disaster so far.Įdit: right, so far so good. Looking at options I can't choose anything but 60hz as it's greyed out. When I tried before I didn't get a splash screen. Had similar problem with Rise when it would say I didn't have the resources on this PC.

I tried again and got further in (frame rate is weird - my gpu's are at 65% and cpu at 30% but get 65fps, sometimes more.) Then I get the same crash and then my PC bsod's which it has never done with a kernal security check failure. It promptly crashed with a DXGI ERROR DEVICE HUNG. Just in case anybody else comes across this, I can verify this solves the problem. So, am i the only one with this issue? Game started and took a look at the options.

I hope this helps and makes it clear how to solve this problem! The save file locations should be in C:\Users\\Documents\Shadow of the Tomb Raider\
Shadow of tomb raider cant reload plus#
All I did was replace my profile with the one I downloaded, and I was able to start a new game plus from my original save. So I mixed some files here and there, and found that my file, profie.dat, was corrupted. Next step was I took my files and put them back, overwriting the new ones I placed, and then I relaunched the game. I downloaded the save file off of this thread: I downloaded a 100% save file from someone else, and I backed up my own files, and placed theirs in my place, loaded up their save onto my own game, and sure enough, I was able to start a new game plus!
